Dear Nigel,

I just wanted to thank you for looking after me so well and so promptly over the past two weeks. At all times your advice was carefully considered and clearly given. Your suggestions were always backed up by your experience and, it seemed to me, a huge dose of common sense. This gave me confidence and reassurance.

I was impressed in particular by your decision during the angiogram to do nothing and by your rationale for that. My experience is that people from all walks of life find it difficult not to intervene even when there seems to be little benefit in so doing.

As we approach the Christmas and New Year season I think it important to bring to the surface the fact that you have undoubtedly kept me alive for the last 18 years. That has given me for sure, and I dare say, my whole family, countless pleasure and the joy of seeing our grandson.

It would please me if you were to bring this achievement to the attention of your family so that you may celebrate the season as we will surely do so ourselves.
